Hořice
The town of Hořice is probably best known for its famous (and good!) candy tubes, but it can offer much more. There is the oldest sculpture school in Europe, the impressive Marian Column or the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Lázně Bělohrad (10 km away)
City and mud baths in the valley of the Javorka River in the Belohrad Hills, 10 km north of Hořice. The Baroque All Saints Church (late 17th century) and the chateau were built according to plans by G. Santini. Spa was founded by the Reich MP Maxmilián Dormitzer, after his death in the 1880s, Countess Anna of Assenburg bought and extended it. ZOO Dvůr Králové (vzdálenost 19 km)
Dvůr Králové Zoo is one of the best known and most beautiful zoos in the country. Located in the foothills of the Giant Mountains and its diverse terrain completes the atmosphere of wild nature. Almost 2500 animals from all continents of the world have found their home here. There is also the largest collection of African animals in Europe.
Pevnostní město Josefov (27 km away)
Josefov Fortress is a unique urban monument area founded by Emperor Joseph II. The underground corridors that are part of the fort's defense system are accessible to tourists. The length of the guided tour is about 1km long. The Lapidary of Baroque statues of M. B. Braun is also worth seeing. Hospital Kuks (25 km away)
Back then, it was the most famous spa resorts in the country - not just because of many artworks and the great tomb made by the Sporck family. There is a garden where you can see a gallery of sculptures of Virtues and Vices made by Master Matthias Bernard Braun. During the tour you will see a Baroque pharmacy from 1743, a church and the beautiful garden. Les Království (19 km away)
One of the most beautiful waterworks is the Les Království (Těšnov) dam near Dvůr Králové nad Labem. The embankments, towers and dam house set in a picturesque valley are making impression of a fairytale landscape. The unique construction began after the major floods in 1883. At the same time another dam was built on the Upper Elbe. You can also see a small hydroelectric power plant, which is an important source of energy today. Miletín (5 km away)
A picturesque town in the Miletín Basin, 6 km north of Hořice. The belfry from the 16th century has been preserved from the originally Gothic monastery in the vicinity of the Church of the Annunciation (originally from the 12th century, later rebuilt). Baroque chateau with Empire style and English park is inaccessible. In the birth house of the writer K.J. Erben today is a museum, on the square stands a poet's monument. Ratibořice chateau and Babiččino údolí (42 km away)
The chateau is associated with Princess Catherine Vilemína Zaháňská (a character known from a well-known book "Babička - the Grandmother" by czech famous writer Božena Němcová), the Grandmother's Valley (nature reserve, nature trail with objects reminiscent of the grandmother's story) ”). foto (CC) Kozuch, Wikimedia Commons.
Chlum (15 km away)
A monument with a museum and an original large cemetery on a hill, 17 km east of Hořice. On July 3, 1866, one of the greatest battles of the 19th century between the Austro-Saxon coalition and the Prussian army was fought here. In the local museum you can see a collection of weapons, uniforms, plans, etc. from the battle.
